weekends 〰️
Weekends was the first song I wrote from this EP when I was fourteen years old (I’m now 16, turning 17 in August 2025).
At the time I’d had songwriters block for a few weeks, so I decided to sit down at my piano and see what I could come up with…
I’m an extremely nostalgic person, and I’d been reminiscing on a family holiday we’d taken to my Dad’s childhood hometown, Mudgee, in the spring of 2016.
Mudgee is this charming little country town in NSW Australia, filled with old buildings, countless cafes, and a gorgeous main park that is perfect for riding your bike.
In the first verse of weekends, I was writing about how I really wanted to go back to Mudgee, and how, hypothetically, we could just pack our bags and drive down for the weekend.
The rest of the song features memories from the last time we’d actually visited. I referred to the time we (my mum, dad and two older brothers) rented bikes from the hotel we were staying at, and rode down the streets and through the park to this sidewalk café, where I tried waffles for the very first time. (I HIGHLY recommend them btw).
During this trip, we visited countryside winery’s, a beehive, and a farm. My Dad took us to the places he used to visit. We drove past his childhood house and the park he played at as a little kid ;)
It was super special.
And there you have it, the story of my Debut single ‘Weekends’.
Love,
Hannah.
